Active Together is a weekly session aimed at helping those with low mood or anxiety get out and meet similar people through light exercise and games. The sessions will include a small exercise circuit which will vary each week, table tennis (Exe Valley only), spin bikes and BlazePods (reaction lights which are great fun!). Refreshments are included after each session.
The course is at:
Exe Valley Leisure Centre (Tiverton), Wednesday, 13:00-14:00
Culm Valley Sports Centre (Cullompton), Thursday, 10:45-11:45
It is suitable for people who struggle with anxiety, low confidence, low self-esteem and people who want to help themselves by doing some light exercise with people just like them. This session is for 20 – 45yr olds who want to try something new with like-minded people
There is no booking required, simply turn up and be welcomed! Just say to reception that you’re here for Active Together and they will do the rest.
The first session is free and after that it’s just £2.50 per time.
A national fitness survey found that the majority of the population did not take enough exercise necessary to achieve benefits to their health. Mid Devon District Council and local health professionals want to improve this situation.
This scheme is being funded with the support of NHS and Mid Devon Leisure and aims to encourage people to become more active.
Exercise should be fun – we hope that you enjoy your time on this course and that regular exercise becomes a part of your lifestyle.
One minute of vigorous activity = 2 minutes of moderate activity.
Adults should also complete strength exercises on two or more days a week that work all the major muscles (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms). This should be your target – it may take a few weeks to get there but when you do you will feel so much better physically and mentally.
Activities can include gardening, walking, housework, DIY and so on. They do not need to be sport-related.
