How we help our communities
At Mid Devon leisure, we don’t just offer a gym, a pool , tennis courts and exercise classes…our efforts go much further.
We work with Active Devon, NHS, GGfit, social prescribers, Amantha King Coaching and ukactive to provide as much benefit to our local communities as we can.
SPARKLE OF MAGIC
We are collecting gifts for our vulnerable communities this Christmas. We have a Christmas tree at each centre with gift tags on, simply collect a tag, purchase the gift and bring into us unwrapped. These gifts will then get delivered to those that need some Christmas cheer.
Please help if you are able to, it will be hugely appreciated.
Thank you.
HEALTH SEEKERS
We know that a healthy lifestyle isn’t easy, especially in today’s topsy turvy world that we live in. We also recognise that not everyone wants to exercise. This is where HEALTH SEEKERS steps in! We now provide health coaching at all of our centres to assist you in becoming healthier in other ways than just exercise.
There is no membership, just a small one-off payment, and this will give you the the following:
- 2 x Boditrax scans
- 1 x health coaching session to give you realistic goals
- 1 x health review to check your progress
If this suits you or someone you know, get in touch and we can help you get started.
MENOPAUSE AWARENESS
We are committed to improving our knowledge with all things menopause. With the support, training and guidance of renowned menopause consultant Amantha King, we aim to empower women and people with the knowledge and resources to navigate this critical stage of life with confidence and support.
We are putting into place training for our staff, providing free education sessions to the public, complimentary gels, leaflets and awareness posters as well as planning to introduce menopause specific strength-based classes in the near future.
CARE LEAVERS
We are passionate about supporting and improving the lives of our care leavers and so we offer all care leavers from 16-25yrs old a free membership. We believe that care leavers should be provided with the best possible start in their adult lives and we hope this scheme helps contribute to that.
Please speak to a member of the team for more details or click the button.
CARDIAC REHAB
At Exe Valley Leisure Centre we run cardiac rehab sessions to support people to get back to as full a life as possible following a cardiac event, such as heart surgery or a heart attack.
Whilst phase I and phase II are delivered by a cardiac rehab team, phase III and phase IV take place at Exe Valley.
Phase III is delivered by a cardiac nurse and a cardiac rehab qualified fitness consultant. When people are ready to move on, phase IV becomes more gym-based and the cardiac nurse is no longer required.
Once phase IV is complete the individual can move on to our GP referral programme or join as a standard member.
We hope you don’t need this service, but if you do, then we are here to help you in the final 2 phases.
TEEN FITNESS
Our teen fitness sessions are supervised sessions in the gym, allowing 11-15yr olds to exercise safely and within their means. These can be pay as you go or included in a monthly membership, and there is also the option of attending the gym with an adult outside of the timetabled sessions.
Because Teen Fitness is supervised, there is always a qualified fitness consultant on hand for any advice or guidance required.
STRENGTH AND BALANCE
Strength and Balance is a course that we provide to increase stability, posture and strength to those that need such support. Delivered at Culm Valley and Exe Valley by one of our specialist fitness consultants, these sessions aim to improve the mobility of individuals and assist their daily life.
If you think this is suitable for you, please email Ali Weber on aweber@middevon.gov.uk for more details.
ACTIVE START (GP REFERRAL SCHEME)
Our Active Start programme is a 3-mth course that provides eligible individuals with specialised exercise advice at a reduced monthly cost. The referral will come from your GP via one of our forms, and could be for such conditions as high blood pressure, diabetes, COPD, Parkinsons or angina. Our highly trained fitness consultants are qualified to help with a long list of medical conditions so if you think you may be eligible, speak to your GP or pop into one of our centres, and see if this programme is for you.
The end goal is to help everyone improve on the reason they were initially referred, and most continue onto a membership afterwards, although this is optional.
